The Value of Medical Staff in Pregnancy Support Facilities

May 24, 2023

By: Hallie Barteau As for-life Christians, we know that all life is valuable. Our loving Creator gives us gifts to use to serve others and uphold the value of life. This gift of service is seen in pregnancy support facilities …

"Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'" - John 8:12
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.  Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." - Matthew 5:14-16
"...because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace." - Luke 1:78-79
"In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." - John 1:4-5
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations." - Jeremiah 1:5
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." - John 10:10
"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth." - Psalm 139:13-15
"Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his." - Romans 6:3-5
"For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth. Upon you I have leaned from before my birth; you are he who took me from my mother's womb. My praise is continually of you." - Psalm 71:5-6
"And Peter said to them, 'Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.'" - Acts 2:38-39
"Jesus answered, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.'" - John 3:5

Whether stepping on a poorly placed Lego or breaki Whether stepping on a poorly placed Lego or breaking your arm in a fall, no human likes to experience pain. Though pain is an unfortunate consequence of the Fall, God can use it to uphold our lives. Oftentimes pain warns us of a larger, life-threatening danger. For example, if we place our hand on a burning stove, sharp, burning pain will shoot through our hand, and our brain will react and remove our hand and the rest of our body from the danger. Developing babies also have this natural sensation. Though their nervous system is still developing, by 10 weeks a baby can experience pain. Unfortunately, when a baby experiences pain in the womb, it likely means death is near. The womb is meant to be a place of safety and comfort for a baby as it grows; abortion works against God’s design for life and ends the life of a young child. Abortion is a painful tragedy for both the mother and child.
Every baby in the womb, no matter his age or ability to feel pain, is valuable to Christ, loved, and redeemed by Him. So, too, is every woman who has had an abortion. As people of hope, we declare forgiveness in Christ to women who mourn their abortion, and we commend His children to His hands.

Christian worship revolves around the gift of life Christian worship revolves around the gift of life. In worship God comes to us through His Word and His Sacraments, Baptism and Communion, to deliver to us forgiveness of sins, salvation, and life! Through Christ we no longer live to sin, but live for Him as He restores us and prepares us for eternal life.

While modern science cannot track precisely when a While modern science cannot track precisely when a baby’s heart begins beating in utero (sometime between 19 and 21 days), the heartbeat is clearly audible by four weeks. The heartbeat is the most universal sign of life. A baby’s heart pumps blood to every part of his body, nourishing organs and tissue. Our hearts began the same way, lightly beating in our mother’s womb as we began to develop. Our little heart was hard at work, giving life to our nascent body.
Jesus Christ, being fully man and fully God, also has a heart just like ours. His heart experienced everything our heart experiences. It beat in Mary’s womb as He developed over nine months. It beat as He grew in wisdom from an infant into an adult. It beat as He began His ministry and healed those sick in body and soul. It beat as He was hung upon the cross, and it stopped beating when He gave His life to redeem ours. But His heart began beating again as He was raised from the dead and glorified. Christ has sanctified and redeemed every stage of human life through His death and resurrection; even the tiniest babies in the womb are valuable because of Him. Our hearts will cease to beat one day, but we know that Christ will return, reunite our bodies to our souls, and make our hearts beat again.
