"Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'" - John 8:12
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.  Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." - Matthew 5:14-16
"...because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace." - Luke 1:78-79
"In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." - John 1:4-5
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations." - Jeremiah 1:5
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." - John 10:10
"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth." - Psalm 139:13-15
"Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his." - Romans 6:3-5
"For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth. Upon you I have leaned from before my birth; you are he who took me from my mother's womb. My praise is continually of you." - Psalm 71:5-6
"And Peter said to them, 'Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.'" - Acts 2:38-39
"Jesus answered, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.'" - John 3:5

Movies and popular media often portray drug use as Movies and popular media often portray drug use as fun and exciting. But these portrayals do not include the pain that the victims of drug addiction undergo as they fight this sickness. Unfortunately, drug usage often leads to death. Every death is a tragedy to God, who created us for life. God does not just care about our souls, He also cares for our bodies and our minds. Though drugs harm the body and the mind, God restores us. He works through doctors, rehabilitation centers, and medicine to bring us healing. He also sent His Son who carried the weight of our sin, pain, and sickness to the cross so that we might have eternal life through Him. If you are struggling with a drug addiction, you are not alone. God has surrounded you with people who love you and want to help you heal. To begin healing, call the Drug Abuse National Hotline at (800) 662-4357 or our own Word of Hope at (888) 217-8679.

Christ has not promised us an easy life. In fact, Christ has not promised us an easy life. In fact, He promised that we would be persecuted for His name’s sake. But He also promised us His Spirit through His Word and Sacraments. This Spirit fills us with love and makes us life-affirming in our vocations. Being life-affirming in a culture of death is not always easy, but Christ strengthens us so that we may endure.

While the taste of alcohol is appealing to some pe While the taste of alcohol is appealing to some people, alcohol is a depressant, that is, something which slows the brain’s ability to function, impairing speech, reactions, and movement. Those who struggle with alcohol use disorder often experience depressive effects to an extreme degree. Not only does this addiction affect the physical well-being of the victim, but it also affects those whom the victim loves, creating a web of brokenness. But God does not forsake those who struggle with addiction. Instead He takes on their brokenness through His Son Jesus Christ, who became man to carry all of our burdens, taking them to the cross where they died with Him. This death and His resurrection brought us healing in mind, body, and soul in this world and the next. If you are struggling with an addiction to alcohol, you are not alone. God has surrounded you with people who love you and want to help you heal. To begin healing, call the Alcohol Treatment Referral Hotline at (800) 252-6465 or our own Word of Hope at (888) 217-8679.

Pornography is one of the most common addictions i Pornography is one of the most common addictions in the United States. Unfortunately, by age twelve most children have been exposed to this harmful content. This warped view of sexuality triggers the brain to desire more, while negatively impacting the victim’s self-esteem and perception of others. As a result, the victim is left feeling full of shame and hopelessness. But no one is lost to God. Christ became man so He could carry all of our guilt and shame. Through His death every sin is covered, even the consumption of pornography. Through Christ we are not only forgiven, but sanctified by the Holy Spirit. And by the Holy Spirit, we are strengthened to fight addiction and receive forgiveness as a free gift. Even though we struggle with pain, sin, and addiction now, Christ will return and wipe every tear from our eye, making our bodies and souls holy and blameless. If you are struggling with pornography you are not alone. God has surrounded you with people who love you and want to help you heal. To begin healing, call Word of Hope at (888) 217-8679.
